Wedding update
Just a note to say that Lucy and I had a wonderful wedding
in Marco Island. We had the most fantastic day with a sunset
that couldn't have been any better. Our honeymoon was just
great - we have lots of really great memories of that time
in Hawaii - which is just as well considering my brother
deleted all our photographs!

Summer News
At last the summer has arrived, the sun is out (occasionally),
the Open has finished (well played Ernie) and kids are breaking
up for their holidays (if they are already bored, please
see MJGA Summer Camps).
I knew I would live to regret that comment back in April,
"I hope this early good weather is not going to be
our summer for the whole year". Obviously May and June
were not exactly conducive to playing a great deal of golf
and of course there was the matter of that small football
competition on. But now there is no excuse for not playing,
brush those clubs off and get yourself out onto the first
tee and have some fun, enjoy the next few months of settled
golfing conditions, don't quote me on that!!
I am pleased to say that Mike Clark, my new instructor
who joined us in May, is doing exceptionally well and has
proved to be an outstanding addition to MJGA. For those
of you who haven't met Mike, or would like to find out a
little more about our new recruit, then please view his
bio here.
Actually there's also the bio for Mark as well as this is a
new section to
the site.
Mike is available for lessons 6 days per week, including
Saturdays and Sundays and three late nights, Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesdays.
Beginner and Game Improvement Classes
These are proving to be very successful. I think you will
agree they represent outstanding value and with the numbers
limited to just five in the Beginners and four in the Game
Improvement, the focus is very much on personal attention.
If you looking to get involved with golf for the first time
or just feel you need to brush up your skills, then MJGA
is the place to do it, give us a call now here.
Demo Day at Chessington Golf Centre
On Wednesday 7th August from 5pm - 9pm we will be holding
a Nike and Yonex Demonstration Night. This will be a fantastic
opportunity for everyone to come along for free and try
the very latest technology from these two leading manufactures.
You can try all the clubs in the range, from wedges to woods;
even the woods that a certain Tiger has been known to give
a thrash. For more details contact us
Junior Summer Camps -
This summer holiday MJGA is holding several four half-day
camps for the children. These have proved to be a huge success
over the years and this year will be no exception. If you
require further details then please feel free to call Mark,
Mike or Tom here. You can also find more details on the
website in the lesson section.
Wedding Update
Yes I know all the advice lads, keep it to yourselves!!
For those of you who are not aware Lucy and I are getting
married on October 12th 2002, after 10 years of putting
up with me, I am finally doing the decent thing. I will
be away from the 6th October and won't be back for a wonderful
three weeks. We get married in Marco Island, off the Gulf
Coast of Florida and then onto to Hawaii for a couple of
weeks. No I am not taking the clubs guys, but all is not
lost as I do have friends in Florida, so I can burrow clubs
if need be, only joking ladies, would I do something like
that!!

NEW STAFF
I am pleased to announce that the MJGA is expanding, part
of these plans include taking on an additional full time
instructor. I have been fortunate in building a solid client
base over the past two years at Chessington and now have
the opportunity to keep the momentum going by adding to
my teaching staff. Customer service and personal attention
have always been a priority in the running of my business
and in order to maintain this high level of professionalism
I have taken on an instructor of the highest quality to
accommodate the ever-increasing numbers of new clients.
Mike Clark will be joining the team on a full time basis, starting on the 13th
May 2002. Mike will be available six days a week for individual
and group instruction, including several late nights and
both Saturday and Sundays.
We have added a new section to the site so have a look
at the new
staff section on the site.

BOOK REVIEWS
We've updated the site and added a section - book reviews. At the MJGA I constantly strive to impart my
experience and knowledge to you in a fun and friendly way
- without bogging you down in the technical minutiae.
However the MJGA isn't always around! What I am attempting
to do in this section of the website is provide a short
cut to ensure that you get the advice that counts. I've assembled some
of my personal recommendations for you to bury your nose in, when
you find yourself alone with some time to spare on those sun kissed
beaches or in the potting shed!
You might also notice that the book reviews can be found
in the 'resources' section along with our links page. We
will be adding to this section in the future - so keep coming
back or sign up to our newsletter to be kept informed of
the latest news and updates.

FACT FINDING MISSION
On the 28th Feb I will be popping out to the Costa Brava region of
Spain on a fact finding mission. It's a chance to reacquaint myself
with this region of Spain and I want to check out the new courses
before organising some trips for the end of year (more details to
follow - check back at the site regularly or sign up for our newsletter
to be kept in touch with developments such as these).
I will be staying at two of my favourite hotels, the Aigua Blava
and the Costa, great amenities and very helpful, friendly staff. Other
than that it will be 6 rounds of golf in five days and just enough
time to sample some of the Seafood delights on offer at the huge
choice of quality restaurants.
It's a horrible job, but someone has to do it, I would much
rather be wrapped up on the range at Chessington, honestly!!

SLIPPERS OFF...
The winter is nearly over and spring is on its way, so take the slippers
off, dust off the clubs and make a move for the 1st tee.
Everyone at the MJGA and the Chessington Golf Centre can't wait for
the new season to start, having been busy all winter making
sweeping improvements around the golf centre. If you have not been to
the club for the past few months then you could be in for quite a shock.
- New state of the art floodlights have been installed, which has
transformed the range in the evenings, you can pick the ball flight up
all the way down to the bottom fence, not so beyond the side fences for
those of you with slight hooks or slices.
- New car park lighting has also been installed and this makes for a
much safer and more appealing walk from your car to the range, no more
fumbling with the keys in the dark.
- Many other general cosmetic improvements have been made around the car
park, range and clubhouse areas, making a brighter and smarter appearance
to the complete centre.
- Inside the main building, the shop has been extended and now boasts
one of the most impressive ranges of golfing equipment to be found anywhere
in Surrey, come and see for yourself and have a browse.
- Now for the main event in the programme of improvement, what
every range goer has been waiting for "THE POWER TEES" have arrived, yes
quite possibly the ultimate in range accessories. This is a totally
automated teeing system, simply poor the golf balls into the ball tray and
every time you hit a ball, another appears without any work on your behalf.
It works on a pressure censor and takes all the hard work out of the teeing
up procedure and no we haven't found an automatic swing yet, but we are
looking like everyone else. The cost of this state of the art technology,
absolutely nothing, that's it folks you pay nothing more than you pay to
use any of the other bays, it's all part of the service.

GROUP LESSONS
Group lessons are now up and running for the new season and
can be booked by contacting Mark and his team on the normal
contact numbers. Believe me when I say these will be the best
value and quality in Surrey, no the South East, no in fact in
England. Numbers in the group will be kept to just FIVE in the
Beginner Group and FOUR in the Game improvement group, this
will ensure personal attention and quality instruction remain
the key factors, as always. The courses will run over four
weeks and the many starting dates are posted on the lessons
page on the website or if you are at the golf centre then have
a look at the notice boards. Groups can be personalised for
you and your friends, just give us a call and we can arrange
a convenient start date. So for the most informative and
fun introduction to the game of golf, call Mark and his team
on 020 8391 0948.
